Well, I'm sitting around the computer lab waiting around for a source for my sidebar story. I think I just need one more person, but since I can't interview comm majors I don't know too many people to talk to. I contacted everyone I could think of in hope they could either be interviewed today or know of some people that I could interview.
This evening is going to be hectic. It takes a while to crank out stories, and this time I'll be cranking out two. My professor approved of the ideas, so that's out of the way. I don't think I'll have too much of a hard time. I'll just have to stay focused. I could stall a bit on Friday to squeeze one more interview. Takes 10 points away (it's an 100 pt. assignment) if I don't have enough sources, so I'm not too bad off. However, I do like to get as many points as I possibly can.
In the mean time, I was thinking about creating a news blog...the only thing is I don't really know what to do it on. I should do one since more and more journalists are blogging. I thought about having a site that was dedicating to bringing important, underexposed stories to the forefront. It'll be a project that I'll start in the summer, but I need to figure out what I want to do for it. Any ideas?
So today wasn't as busy as I thought it would be...which is a bad thing. Now all of my interviews will be on Wednesday and Thursday. It's beginning to look like I'll be spending most of Thursday night working on my stories. Again, this is what I get for procrastinating, but hell when you feel like you need time to do other things in classes and get some sleep it's kind of hard to take the extra time to do interviews and write articles. It's not a fast process at all.
Some sources are not getting back to me so I'm going to have to scurry for some. I still haven't touched up my story memo so I'm going to have to scrape up something.
It is going to be such a hectic week for me. This is what I get for procrastinating; however, some of my best work is produced at the last minute. The thing is, I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do for a story with sidebar until today. Luck was on my side because on Wednesday there will be a discussion group talking about my subject that my stories are on (which is Financial Aid). I'm hoping to find sources there. If I do well on this one, then I won't have do too much on the revision and then I can focus on the final story that I need to do. I've been trying to get around to it earlier, but a ton of things have gotten in the way.
Today, my reporting for mass media teacher asked me if I wanted to be an editor or an assistant editor for next term's newspaper. I wanted to do this until I found out that editors spend a ton of hours in the news room stressing their brains out over each issue. Now, I know in the world of news this is what I will be doing; however, I do help take care of my grandma and my aunt. He knows that, but he wants me do be more involved with newspaper since I want to be a journalist and this would look good on my resume. I do agree with that, I just have to really think about it. I'll also have to get my driver's license and a car in order to do this, so I don't have to hear my mother grumble about taking me there and back.
Well, I have to get back to work on gathering sources for my article and rewriting my story memo. Then I have to go to a lecture at another college so I can write up last out-of-class paper for International Relations.
WHEN WILL I EVER HAVE TIME TO KNIT! OMG! I barely have time to blog! I think I'm going insane so I'll live this post the way it is.
For those who don't really care to read what I have to say, but is interested in sharing with me you story about the time you were discriminated against because of your age, check out the bold text.
So I had this brilliant idea for a story to write for my final project for reporting for mass media class: age discrimination against young people. We had to write a query letter, that is due today, for a publication to write this story. Well, I don't know who I would write it for. I was hoping there was a national publication for 18-29 year olds that dealt with issues that affect 20somethings such as the quarterlife crisis, etc. Well, I didn't find it. If I don't get this query letter done today, I don't get the 10 points, which is okay. However, I still need to do it.
Does anyone know a good publication where I can get this published?
As of this semester in university I'm a freelance writer, and for my final project in my reporting for mass media I want to do a story about age discrimination against young people (preferably amongst twenty-somethings). So, I'm calling for a little help from my friends. Has there ever been something that you tried to do such as buy a house, a car, or anything like that, but was turned down because of your age? If you are willing to share your story and be interviewed about it, send me an e-mail at soupytwist616@gmail.com with a description of what happened with contact information (including a phone number). Your help will be greatly appreciated!
